Did you spot it?
If you didn’t read the story on my Instagram, earlier last week my friend Bel (see her work here) surpised me with a little something she put together in her casual but-I-am-so-talented way. I LOVE it. And it spoke to me.
In a world where I was inspired to get branding after visiting TDP and I was splashing paint colours on paper (yes really) and trying to pull colours from some of my favourite images and figure out what Healthy Natty’s ‘colours’ were going to be and how I could ever possibly tie a really specific emerald green and a grey-ish peach into food photography… I was SO happy to see black and white. My favourite colours (they’re not colours blah blah OK).
Then I look around my house…
– Black & white rug
– Grey couches
– Black, white & grey room
– Dark grey and white office with black bookshelves
– White bathroom, black accessories
– Black & white striped tops E-VERYWHERE.
See a theme?
I love black and white but food photography is all about vibrance and colour and shiny-green and totally in. your. face. SMACKS of freshness.
So with my new logo, you’re going to see me trying to blend my beloved monochrome look with food.
I don’t know if it will work.
I may lose a heap of fans (let’s face it, the cakes might do that anyway with my name!)
I’ll probably create loads of dud images first.
But I don’t care.
I am always, always spending loads of time behind the scenes and away from anything you ever see on social practising every kind of food photography so I know I can offer that to clients. I’m not a genius, or a natural, I wasn’t born with a camera in my hand and my last job involved days and days of being super organised and spreadsheet-y. I am always practising (and I love it).
But Healthy Natty started out of my passion after I was so incredibly sick with CFS. It’s about me and what I love. It should represent me and black and white IS ME.
So welcome to my new little world of trying to bring monochrome to food photography.
With a side of practise & total mess …
Have a beautiful weekend x
